A Syrian Love Story

Amer and Raghda met each other in a Syrian prison 20 years ago. Amer’s first glimpse of Raghda was her bloodied face, when she was thrown to the cell next to his. They fell in love in the prison and, when released, got married and had children. However, Raghda is a political activist and a revolutionary, who has trouble settling down to a quiet family life. The war doesn’t let them go either: they escaped the violence to France only to start fighting with each other.

Sean McAllister is a director, who likes to get close to his subjects, often participating to the events. He follows Amer’s and Raghda’s life for five years and becomes almost a family member. When McAllister is arrested, it is like another chapter in their tragic tale.

A Syrian Love Story shows us how Assad’s violent dictatorship and the war in Syria affect the lives of individuals and families alike.
