The One and Only, Tales of Love

In Kiti Luostarinen’s film The One and Only, Tales of Love, people of all ages have their say on love: kindergarteners, seniors, new couples and spouses of fifty years worth of history. Luostarinen managed to persuade aloof Finns to pour their hearts out – long before the Finnish hit documentary Steam of Life (DocPoint 2010). Paced by Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen’s photographs, the film follows the subjects in their own environments and daily lives. All interviewees share a solid trust for love and its omnipotence. As a senior lady in love puts it, ”love makes roses bloom in the desert”. The original score is composed by Toni Edelmann, Luostarinen’s spouse. Do we hear true love in it too?
